For some, the path of birth is a difficult one, fraught with twists and turns. A Caesarean section is a journey that not everyone is prepared to undertake. Sometimes it's a conscious choice, while at other times it's a twist of fate that leads us down this road. Whatever the case may be, it's essential to prepare yourself for the challenges that may be up ahead.
The following ritualistic practices are intended to support your preparation for birth and to help you feel empowered, confident, and prepared for your unique birth experience.
Firstly, ask your beloved birth partner to capture all the moments. Post surgery, it can sometimes be hard to piece together where you and your baby were and when - like a time puzzle - so it’s lovely to have a visual story to share together when you get home as a family.
Secondly, breathe deeply, for in the power of breath lies the key to both your strength and healing. Know that postpartum yoga is, at its core, the art of breathing. And if you feel the vibrations of sound can allow you to relax then let that be a tool to calm.
Thirdly, remember to tread lightly on your path, with the utmost gentleness. The healing journey postpartum is one beyond words, and I offer my support to you in full measure. Nourish yourself with warm, soothing foods, and let the love of those around you be your pillars.
Fourthly, prepare for the arrival of "lochia," the postpartum bleeding that may come as a surprise to you, having not seen the moon's flow for nine long months.
And finally, inscribe any lingering fears on bay leaves and cast them into the fire. Bay is a powerful herb that banishes negativity and imbues the bearer with courage and victory.
May the threads of fate weave a tapestry of wonder and joy for you and your newborn child and know you have all you need within. You are the universe to your baby and they behold the gaze of a Goddess.
