The Sun, a golden orb of light and energy that to most of us bears a "too hot" narrative or something that we look forward to whilst on holiday. Perhaps we make plans if we know it might be out but how many of us actually consider the sun's power to help with anxiety, sleep, digestion and many other facets that make us human?
Russell Foster CBE, British professor of circadian neuroscience states
"...human biology remains profoundly dependent on the 24hour revolution of the earth upon its axis." Yet many of us are under the light of our screens rather than sunlight and it could be explaining our cultural relationship with insomnia.
According to a global study back in 2016, one in two children spend an hour or less outside per day, in contrast to prisoners who are guaranteed two hours in the open air every day. This to me is astonishing, We need this dose of sunlight to help regulate our nervous system, connect with out circadian rhythm and manage our own wellbeing.
When did we lose our way. and our connection to this life giving force?
I consciously listen into the lunar tides each month but I know my connection to the sun is not as strong.... this month I am actively seeking to change this and having learnt more about the Goddess Sunna and her Nordic roots and stories I feel a call to honour this blazing fireball in the sky with more reverence and awareness.
Fancy joining me on this journey?
